History of "The Ranch"Six Pines Ranch is north of the Perimeter highway and is situated on SE 20-12-2E. This land, was Metis script land during the 1800's. In the late 1800's, Joseph Cook obtained a patent for the virgin land and thus became the first private owner. Subsequently Mr. Herber Archibald, a Winnipeg barrister, bought the land. In early 1900's, Thomas Whitehead purchased 480 acres of Mr. Archibald's land in the Lilyfield district and by 1911 all the farm buildings had been built. Thomas Whitehead was born in Port Hope, Ontario June 29, 1877. He came west to Winnipeg in 1902 from New York City. In December of 1905, he married Katherine Sanders in the City of Winnipeg. Mrs. Sanders was born in Galveston, Texas, November 26,1875 and had become acquainted with Thomas Whitehead while she attended Art School in New York City. During our research we were informed that Mrs. Whitehead came from a wealthy Texas family, which would explain the Douglas Fir throughout the entire home. We were also told that Thomas Whitehead was an architect whom also aided in the construction of the Lilyfield School in 1922. We were informed by neighbors, that during the 1900's there was a main road, or road used by the wagons etc., which passed through the Whitehead property and quite often during storms the passers-by had to take up residence. Even as early as 1914, our home was used as a Bed & Breakfast. If only the walls could speak - what stories I am sure they would tell.
